On the 26^th, the weather was good, the horizon a bit misty, the wind came from the south and kept up until around the 29^th; on that day there was a violent storm that did not, however, hold us up much given that we were able to come close to the North American coast, without, however, being able to see land.

Den 26ten ware das Wetter schön und gut, der Horizont etwas neblicht, der Wind von sütlicher Seite und tauerte biß gegen den 29ten alsdann erhub sich ein starcker Sturm Wind, welcher uns aber nicht viel Verhindernüß machte, und doch dabey zimmlich nahe die nord-americanische Küsten erlangeten doch aber so daß wir noch kein Land vermercken konten.

On July 2^nd, the horizon appeared completely covered in mist and the winds were very weak.

Den 2ten Jully zeigte sich der Horizont gantz neblicht und sehr schwacher Wind.

On the 3^rd, the horizon was so misty that we could not see from one boat to the other.

On the evening of the 3^rd, we again had winds from the southeast, but there was still a bit of fog.

Den 3ten gegen Abend bekammen wir wiedrum Wind von sud-östlicher Seite, doch aber noch etwas neblicht.

On the 4^th, the horizon was once again quite covered in mist, and it remained so until the 10^th, when the fog was so thick that we could not see farther than 10-12 paces[49], so much so that all the ships were required to beat drums so that they could follow each other by sound; we also had a small artillery fired so that the ships would not lose one another whilst following the sound, etc. But despite all these arrangements 4 ships from our flotilla were lost. As for the thick fog, it was very useful for us because had there been none,

Den 4ten zeigte sich der Horizont wiedrum etwas stärcker mit Nebel, biß gegen den 10ten da erhube sich der Nebel dermassen so dick so daß man auf 10 – 12 Schritte nicht hell sehen konte, daß alle Schiffe verbunden waren, ihre Tambours mit ihren Trumeln schlagen zu lassen um Lermen zu machen daß ein Schiff dem andre nachfolgen konte, nebst auch stets mit kleinen Gewehr zu feuren, damit sich die Schiffe nicht eines von dem andren verlieren kan sondern dem Schall nachfolgen etc. Bey aller dieser Vorsehung aber verlohren sich doch 4 Schiffe von unsrer Flotte.
