On the 14^th, we had poor weather, but this did not impede our journey.

Den 14ten hatten wie etwas ungestümmes Wetter, doch aber so, daß wir auf unsrer vorhabenden Reise keine Ver-hindernüß hatten.

On the 15^th, the horizon was bright and clear and we had pleasant weather.

Den 15ten zeigte sich der Horizont wiedrum hell und klahr mit lieblichem Wetter.

On the 16^th, we had good winds and we passed near the island of Jamaica that was on our left.

Den 16ten guten Wind und passierten die Höhe von der Insul Jamaica, welche auf unsrer lincken Seite lage.

On the 17^th, we were in the waters of the island of Santo Domingo etc.

Den 17ten kamen wir schon in die Nachbahrschafft von der Insul Saint Domingue etc.

On the 18^th, we saw the lands of St. Domingo, around noon we arrived just near what is called la Grange in French, which is a tall rock in the sea 2 hours off the coast of the port of Cape François: in order to reach the Cape one must pass very near that rock! And after having passed by the rock you are safe, as if you were in a port; this is why this rock is compared to a barn.

Den 18ten sahen wir das Land von St. Domingue, gegen Mittag kammen wir gantz nahe gegen die Scheuer oder auf Frantzösische la Grange genanndt, welches ein hoher Berg im Meer ist 2 Stund weit von dem Haffen von Cap- François heraussen : Und wann man nach der Cap fahren will, muß man gantz nahe bey diesem Berg vorbey ! und sobald mann diesen Berg hinder sich hat, ist mann in der Sicher-heit so gut als wann man im Haffen wäre ; dessenthalben dieser Berg auch einer Scheuer verglichen wird.

Gegen 3 Uhr nach Mittag passierten wir die Scheuer, und kammen nahe gegen den Haffen, daß jedermann die Stadt Cap-François gar schön vor Augen sehen konnte, nebst denen vielen Schiffen die schon alda im Haffen stunden weilen aber der Wind gar zu schwach ware
