the other side. That Susquehanna River has very intense boat traffic and stretches all the way to the Canadian border[259]. It takes its source in the Appalachian Mountains, still known as the Blue Mountains[260], it flows through the province of Pennsylvania, and this Susquehanna River forms the border between Maryland and Pennsylvania. geschafft. Dieser Fluß Suß-Johanock oder Suß-Johanna ist sehr schiffreich und erstreckt sich biß auf die Gräntzen von Canada. Er nimbt seinen Ursprung in dem Apalaischen Gebürge oder sonsten die Blauen Berge genandt, er hat seinen Lauff langs durch die Profintz Phensilphania, zu gleicher Zeit scheidet auch dieser Fluß Suß-Johan Mary-Land und Phinselfania voneinander. Welcher Fluße auch auf folgenter Seite zu sehen ist, wie auch die Formation vom Lande, in selbiger Gegend etc.

On the 29^th, we set off again and travelled 16 miles to Head-of-Elk, a small town, the same day we passed through Carlstatt or Carstawn, a lovely little town in a pleasant region. We made our camp right next to the town of Head-of-Elk situated along a beautiful river with intense boat traffic, the river on which our grenadiers and Chasseurs boarded ship to go to Virginia last year.

Den 29ten brachen wir alda wiedrum auf 16 Meillen bis Head-of-Elck ein Städtgen, selbigen Tag passierten wir Carlsstatt oder Charlstawn ein schönes Städtgen in einer angenehmen Gegend. Wir schlugen unser Lager gantz nahe bey der Stadt Head-of-Elck, welche an einem schönen schiffreichen Fluße liegd, auf welchem Fluße das Jahr vorher unser Grenadier und Jäger eingeschifft seyn vor nach Virginia zu fahren.

On the 30^th, we set off again for 17 miles to Peiff-Krick, a very pleasant region, where we made our camp right beside a river called Peiff-Krick. The same day we had passed through a lovely little town called Christinathaun or, in German, Christinastatt, in a pleasant region, at the foot of a flat mountain, where many ships could still be seen.

Den 30ten brachen wir wiedrum auf 17 Meillen biß Peiff-Krick eine schöne angenehme Gegend, allwo wir das Lager schlugen gantz nahe an dem Fluße Peiff-Krick ge-nandt. Wir passierten den nemlichen Tage auch unter-wegs ein schön Städtgen mit Namens Christinathaun oder auf deutsch Christinastatt genanndt in einer an-genehmen Gegend, an einem gantz flachen Gebürge, all-wo man schon wiedrum viele Schiffe antraffe.
