we were once again boarded on the same ship, L’Isle de France. But as this ship was old and in poor repair, our colonel refused that we go on board. But as the general had it examined and visited by impartial people, who found the ship to be fine, we had to go aboard, save for one company, which boarded an American privateer, so that there were 5 companies aboard L’Isle de France, where we suffered so much from cold that, now as before, we could hardly believe it. This region, it is true, extends far to the north, all the way to Canada, and it is easy to imagine that it was very cold there.

Weil das Schiff aber alt und bau-fällig ware, wolte unser Obrist nicht daß wir darauf eingeschifft solten werden : Weil aber der General es selbsten hat untersuchen und vissitieren lassen durch unpartheyische Leute, welche aber das Schiff vor gut befanden, also mußten wir wiedrum mit Gewalt darauf gehen, ausgenommen eine Comp[agnie] wurde auf einen americanischen Corssaire gethan, und blieben wir noch 5 Comp[agnien] auf Lisle de France allwo wir dermassen Kälte mußten ausstehen daß unglaublich ist und ware. In dieser Gegend weil es schon starck gegen Norden an Canada stösset ist sich leicht einzubilden daß die Kälte sehr groß ist.

On the 19^th and 20^th, we received orders to load all of our regiment’s equipment. On the 22^nd, we cleared the ship from the ice, as it was near the shore and ice had formed around it. On the 23^rd, in the afternoon, we began to raise the anchor. It was just one day before Christmas.

Den 19ten und 20ten wurden wir beordert alle unser Regiments-Equipage einzuschiffen. Den 22ten wurde das Schiff auß dem Eis loßgehauen dan es stunde gantz nahe am Uffer und ware ein-gefrohren. Den 23ten nach Mittag fingen wir an Ancker zu ziehen. Das ware just den Tag vor Weihenacht.
