especially as that raft could have held all the survivors of the ship. But as soon as it was completed, it was the captain of the ship and all his officers and a few good sailors who took their places on it to escape. Others wanted to jump on the raft, but as soon as they reached it, the officers drew their swords and pushed them back by jabbing and hitting them while trying to free the raft from the ship, but other sailors etc. now jumped into the water to reach the raft, and as soon as they had swum to it and had grabbed hold of it, the officers cut off their hands etc. But it was not God’s will to save that raft, and while they had managed to escape to half the distance of a rifle shot, they sank with their raft into the depths of the sea and not one of them survived.

Sobald es aber fertig ware, ginge der Schiff Capitaine mit allen Officirs drauf nebst etlichen gute Matrosen um sich fortzuarbeiten. Es wolten auch noch die andern auf diese Rüstung springen sobald sie aber darauf kamen zogen die Officirs ihr Säbel und Degen aus, stochen und hieben sie todt, und eileden das Flotz vom Schiff abzustossen darauf aber sprangen noch viele Matrossen etc. ins Wasser um dieses Flotz zu erlangen, sobald sie geschwommen biß ans Gerüste an daß sie es mit den Händen darnach grieffen, hieben sie ihnen die Hände ab etc. Weil es aber absonderlich nicht Gottes Will ware diese auf dem Flotz zu erretten fuhren sie ohngefähr einen halben Bichsenschutz weit vom Schiffe als dan versünckten sie mit ihrem Flotz in die Tieffe des Meers daß keiner von ihnen davon gekommen ist.

Sobald es Tag ware wageten sich alle Matrossen so noch auf dem Schiff waren um aufs Land zu schwimmen wovon auch etliche dahin kamen und auch einige vertruncken seyn. Diejenige so aufs Land kamen konten auch nichts zu essen bekommen auf diesem Lande
