We stayed there until May 17^th, then we were brought aboard a frigate and taken from the island of Jamaica to the island of Santo Domingo, in the town and port of Port-au-Prince, where we stayed for a certain amount of time[364]. Port-au-Prince is populated with quite a few Germans and is located 60 hours from Caap or Cape François. There are no tall houses there, they have but one level, because the earthquakes are too strong, so that oftentimes the houses were destroyed, which caused great misfortune. It is occupied by 2 regiments of colonial troops that stay there permanently and that bear the same name as the town of Port-au-Prince. These soldiers live very well there, it is nothing like the soldiers of the kingdom, all of their equipment is made of linen.

Wir verblieben alda biß den 17ten May alsdann wurden wir wiedrum aufgelößet und durch eine Fregatte von der Insel Jamaica nach der Insel Saint-Domingue geführet in die Stadt und See- Hafen mit Namens Porto-Printz, alda verblieben wir eine Zeit lang. Diesens Porto-Printz ist auch zimmlich mit Deutschen bewohnet und liegt 60 Stund von der französischen Caap oder Caap-François. Auch findet man alda keine hohe Häusser, sie seynd nur alle von einem Stock hoch, darum ? weil die Erd-bebungen alda zu starck regieren, so daß vielemal die Häusser über Hauffen geworffen und dadurch viele Unglücke enstehn. Sie ist auch besetzt zu jeder Zeit mit 2 Reg[iment] Collonie-Soldaten welche stets da liegen bleiben und tragen auch den nemlichen Namen wie die Stadt Porto-Printz. Diese Soldaten leben sehr gut alda so daß es doch nicht mit denen im König Reich ein-stimt, ihre Montierung ist alles von Leinen-Zeug gemacht.
