On the 12^th, the horizon was still bright and clear with pleasant weather, and quite hot; so much that we could no longer stand having the slightest bit of clothing on our bodies, which surprised us very much! Indeed, not so long ago the cold was still so great and now it was just the contrary. Firstly it is surprising that in 12 days of boat travel one passes from cold to heat thusly. Then we were surprised because we were in the midst of winter and yet we were unbearably hot.

Den 12ten zeigte sich der Horizont wiedrum hell und klahr mit lieblichem Wetter, und sehr warm ; so daß wir nicht mehr das geringste von unsrer Munthürung auf dem Leib leyden konten, worüber mir sehr ver-wundert waren ! Daß vor kurzer Zeit die Kälte noch so groß gewessen, und jetzt das Wiederspiel folget. Eines Theils ware es auch wundrungswür-dig daß sich in 12 Tag Reiße zu Wasser Hitze und Kält so scheiden kann. Überhaupt verwunderten wir uns auch weil es würcklich auch mitten im Winter ware, und nun jetzt eine so unerträgliche Hitze folget.

On the 13^th, the winds were good and a bit cool until 8 o’clock in the morning, then it was once again so hot we could hardly stand it. And this heat became greater day by day. First we had suffered such an intense cold 10-12 days ago that we knew not where to put our hands and feet to warm them, and now we melted under the effect of the heat.

Den 13ten ware der Wind gut, und etwas kiel biß gegen 8 Uhr des Morgens, hernach aber folgte die Hitze wiedrum so häufig daß es fast unaus-stehlich ware. Jetzt folgte die Hitze von Tag zu Tag stärcker, so daß wir noch vor 10-12 Tagen der Kälte so verdrießlich waren und nicht wußten wo wir unsre Hände und Füße hinstecken sollten, um sie warm zu bekommen ; jetzt aber vor Hitze fast zer-schmeltzen mußten.
