On the 20^th, we set off again for a 15-mile journey to Plainfield, another beautiful estate situated in a beautiful region.

On the 23^rd, 11 miles to Hartford, a rather large town along a river with intense ship traffic, which is why business here is very active. We rested there until the 27^th.

Den 23ten 11 Meilen biß Haarford eine zimmliche grosse Stadt an einem schiffreichen Fluße dessentwegen auch sehr handelbahr ist. Alda hatten wir Rastag bis den 27ten.

On the 27^th, we set off again to cover the 12 miles to Farmington, a small town near the mountain. As soon as camp was made and the Turkish march[112] could be heard, the inhabitants came en masse and, surprised and astonished, we wondered where all these people had come from, given that during the day we had seen very few houses during the journey. This influx of inhabitants was repeated each day and as soon as we arrived in another camp we were immediately surrounded by Americans.

Den 27ten brachen wir alda wiedrum auf 12 Meilen biß Farmingston ein Städtgen am Gebürge. So-bald wir das Lager geschlagen hatten und die türckische Musick sich hören ließ so versammlete sich alda eine solche Menge Volk deren Einwohner daß man sich erstaunte und verwundern mußte nur wo diese Leute alda herkommen seynd indem wir den Tag durch unter-wegs sehr wenig Häusser antroffen haben. Dieses tauerte täglich fort mit dem Zulauff deren Einwohner Sobald wir in ein ander Lager kamen so ware es schon gantz umringet mit Americaner.
